Who am I?

You are not what the world sees, you are what you believe to be…

In front of the mirror
Each day, each night,
Listening to my reflection
In unwavering plight,
To voices, I cannot see
I feel sorry for their squandering.

I hear them say
In a fearful din,
You’re too short, too fat
Or well, just not brill,
But do I care?
A bit I’ll say, then move on for their decay.

I question myself
Each waking light,
The question that scorches my sight,
Hampers my thinking,
Kills my heart,
The question I need to ask.

Who am I? I think,
Each time I reach the brink,
As I try to understand
What they see,
Coz all I see
Is the talent degreed.

Who am I? You say,
Well I’ll convincingly repeat
I am the person you’ll never see without retreat,
The person who is more than what you see
I am not what my demeanour speaks,
I am one who writes my destiny.

Your thinking,
It merely shows my display
The semblance that’s bound to decay
I worry not of what I see
In that mirror which is not destiny
Who am I?
I am me.
